Dear Friend of the US Biathlon Team,
Last season, on the 2010 Olympic course, Jeremy Teela won our first World Cup medal since 1992. Tim Burke, Jay Hakkinen and Lowell Bailey all had top-15 finishes last season. Haley Johnson logged her personal-best at the World Championships. Grace Boutot won a medal at the Youth World Championship and the women’s team finished 10th in the World Championships relay. The men had a 5th place relay finish in the World Cup, just seconds from the podium and the best since 1991. With your help we can build on all this success and win the historic first American biathlon medal at the Olympic Games.
It is now clear that the comprehensive plan to ensure Americans will have the training and support necessary to win a medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and a gold medal at that, is working. The athletes have done their part by being focused and dedicated day in and day out – doing the hard work to become the best in the world. The staff has organized a great training program, utilizing the most advanced training methods and technologies. The Team has received much more support than ever from the US Olympic Committee. But to continue to make progress against the best in the world and ultimately beat them, we need to do more. To succeed, our team requires unprecedented commitments of time, facilities, and financial support, year after year.
Generations of athletes, coaches and supporters like you have given of themselves to bring us to where were are today, ready to make a serious run at America’s first Olympic medal in biathlon. But with the Vancouver Olympics just under eight months away, the athletes need your support now more than ever. Last season about fifty friends answered the call and helped our annual Gold Medal Campaign reach over twenty-five thousand dollars, an unprecedented success and a first for the Team. Help us match that high-water mark again by giving today, before the end of our fiscal year on June 30th. Your contribution goes directly to the athletes’ training, and your support will make it possible for the athletes to reach their dreams and win a medal in Vancouver.
