Syracuse Results & WCH Trials/Nationals Entry Reminder

The Syracuse Biathlon Club hosted a summer biathlon at Pratts Falls Park in
Pompey, New York on Saturday, June 27. Seventeen athletes competed. The event
was a 5 km Mass Start.

Stephanie Blackstone and Douglas Hoover of Pennsylvania won their respective
races.

Blackstone shot a career best 55% and combined that with her usual strong run to
claim victory in the women’s race. Junior Katie Sick also had a strong race to
finish second. She shot 70% and also had a solid run. Master Ann Sick rounded
out the top three women with a 60% shooting performance. Those top three
finished in 31:47, 33:01, and 35:48; respectively.

At last year’s World Championship Trials, Blackstone was the top overall
finisher; Katie Sick finished fourth overall and second among juniors; and Ann
Sick finished sixth overall and was the top master finisher. With the 2009
trials less than two weeks away, those same three appear poised to make strong
runs again this year.

In the men’s race, Hoover shot 90% to claim a four minute margin of victory in
the men’s race. Gary Brackett finished second and was the top master with a 70%
shooting performance and a strong run. Scott Sick shot 50% to claim third
overall and second master. Brackett and Sick finished tenth and thirteenth,
respectively at last year’s World Championship Trials and are expected to
compete again this year.

Up next on the schedule are the 2009 World Championship Trials and
National Championships at Lake Placid, New York July 8-12. If you plan to
