Back in Alaska
by Jay Hakkinen / February 21, 2009
After a long bout of sickness during the World Championships, I returned early to Alaska in order to prepare for the Vancouver World Cup.
Getting away from the World Championship atmosphere is helping me get re focused on my training, and not to dwell on the disappointment of not being able to race at the season's main event.
It is nice to be home, although I am not used to driving on the icy roads, and even slipped into the ditch today. Thankfully, four wheel drive was enough to get out. I prefer to move around on skis, and the conditions are excellent. Training at home gives me new motivation as I begin this two week training cycle in preparation for the final three weeks of World Cup racing.
