2009 World Championship Prep

by Jay Hakkinen / January 31, 2009

My preparation for the 2009 World Championships has begun with fine tuning some weaknesses I identified on the World Cup, and also on training for a peak. After another grueling three weeks of World Cup racing throughout January, I have a solid 32nd overall World Cup ranking and am staying close to the top 30, where I plan to be at the end of the season. I did begin to feel the fatigue from doing every World Cup race this season except for one pursuit race in Antholz, Italy. Many athletes skip races or even take a full week off in order to rebuild their shape, but I have been fighting hard for every World Cup point and every relay, so that has not left any time for a break. Thankfully, I have a good training base from the summer training, and now feel motivated to achieve some top World Championship results.
