A day off
by Jay Hakkinen / August 02, 2009
Every once in awhile I take a day off from my training to recover. Many of the athletes that train in Oberhof prefer to go to Erfurt on their day off to shop a bit and have a coffee just walk around the city and do something different than train in the woods. I however, prefer Weimar, which is smaller and quieter with more parks and a great walking street in the downtown.
An example, on one of my off-days last months I was spending the day walking through the park with my girlfriend and daughter in Weimar. On that day they had a little festivity going on with a kids running race around a pond. Even at the age of four years Germans seem pretty competitive, and some of the runners had a pretty impressive stride.
At the race they also had an archery range set up, which I have never tried before. After a short instruction I took my first shot and hit dead center. It turns out that archery is quite a bit like shooting, and quite a bit of fun. The instructor seemed pretty surprised I was hitting so many in the center, but I think it is just because Archery targets are so much bigger than biathlon targets.
Well, I guess since I worked on my shooting that day, it is not the best example of a day off at all.
